1 The History of the Rosary Beads

2 Celebrities wear Rosary Beads

3 People get tattoos of Rosary Beads

4 Many celebrities wear the Rosary beads around their necks
Many celebrities wear the Rosary beads around their necks. Some people believe that these celebrities are not showing us their devotion to their faith but simply wearing the rosary beads as a fashion statement. Look at these celebrities again, each one of these people have gone through hard times in their lives. It is important for us to be cautious in judging the intention of our brothers and sisters in Christ who wear the rosary around their neck. It is possible that the person is wearing the rosary as a fashion statement and does not have a devotion to the Blessed Mother while it is also possible the person wears it as spiritual armor. We must also consider the other possibility — the person wearing the rosary has never thought it to be wrong and is unaware of the controversy that erupts among Catholic circles over the outward expression of their Marian devotion.Let us not be quick to judge the intentions of our rosary-wearing brethren, remembering Jesus’ admonition of judging, “Stop judging, that you may not be judged” (Matthew 7:1 NAB). Only the Lord and the individual are aware of the intention within the heart of the devotee but let us have confidence in Our Lady’s intercession and protection given to those who wear the rosary for all the wrong reasons.

5 Who loves you unconditionally?
When you were young and you had a fight with your friends, brother or sister, Fell off your bike, needed somebody to talk to who was there to make you feel better? Who loves you unconditionally? Who is there to support you in your life? Our mothers have constantly been there for us throughout our lives. They comforted us, looked after us and watch over us. When we pray the rosary we pray to Mary the mother of Jesus. We also say the Hail Mary. It would seem only right that we seek comfort from the Lord Jesus’ mother in our times of need.

6 Here is a diagram of the Rosary beads
as we know them today. However, they Did not always look like this. Let’s take a look through history and Discover the story and development of The Rosary.

7 The Rosary has no definite point of origin. It simply evolved over time.

8 Lets draw a timeline to show how the Rosary beads developed over time!

9 This painting is called The Betrothal of The Arnolfini.
It was painted in the 13th Century. Can you find the Rosary beads in this picture? This evolution can be seen especially in paintings and mosaics of the 12th century onwards all over Europe. One such painting which can be found in the National Gallery of London is known as, The Betrothal of The Arnolfini by Jan Van Eyck. If you look at the painting the date above the mirror in the picture is the one of significance, The single candle in the picture symbolizes the divine presence; small dog represents fidelity of marriage. However if you look closer behind the two figures you can see a set of rosary beads hanging beside the mirror. The significance of this shows that this painting is one of the earliest records we have of the high level of acceptance of the Rosary. By gracing the wall of such a distinguished merchant, it would appear that the Rosary was already taken for granted as normal in Christian practice. If you examine the mirror frame itself you can see it depicts the mysteries, more or less the way we know them today. However, instead of 15 there are only 10. This again is clear evidence of the evolutionary process surrounding the Rosary.
