2. What is PCDC? PCDC is a cyber defense competition between South Carolina high schools on the first day and colleges on the second day. In 2015 a third day "Pro Day" was added at the request of USCYBERCOM to evaluate a PCDC-like scenario for use as a persistent training environment. The students from each school comprise the Blue Teams that are responsible for operating a small network while protecting the network infrastructure from Red Team attacks. Blue Teams are scored for accomplishing administrative and business tasks while maintaining network/service availability (such as mail and web servers) as well as their ability to detect and respond to threats. Students must be able to configure and protect their network. Teams must also be able to respond to business requests such as the addition or removal of additional services, and balance security needs against business needs. This competition has energized high schools & colleges to focus on development of the type of technical skills that we need in today’s challenging cyber environment. This will include cyber security/information assurance technical skills that are often taught only at the post graduate college level. Valuable practical experience is gained by students in a sector that needs more talented workers to meet growing cyber security challenges. It is conducted in close cooperation with our industry partners 2

9. 9 Success Stories ▼Captain of 2 nd Place CSU team was hired by SSC Pacific ▼Several PCDC students are working as interns at SSC Atlantic ▼Several former PCDC participants are working locally and/or participated in Pro Day or on Red Team this year. ▼Last year’s high school MVP participated on SRA Pro Day team ▼South Carolina High School participation in CyberPatriot has increased from 3 a few years ago to over 40 in 2015 due in large part to the partnership with PCDC ▼SSC Atlantic continues to respond to schools requesting help starting STEM/Cyber programs

PCDC 2016 ▼National Guard classes were a big hit and were asked if they can repeat (Cyber Kill Chain, Cyber Threat Analysis) ▼Pro Day college student imbeds worked really well, at least 3 received job offers that day and another was asked for a resume. ▼Sponsorship opportunities are available as well as the opportunity to compete ▼Pinewood Prep (done) and now Porter Gaud have requested assistance 10
