A Journey Back In Time

First stop 1607 - Jamestown Settlement aka The First Permanent English Settlement

105 men arrived looking for gold… ….they came on the Susan Constant, Godspeed and Discovery.

All would have died, if one man did not have a plan to settle the land. That plan was simply “Those who do not work, shall not eat!” – John Smith

And so they set to work to create a little bit of England in the New World.

They built.

And soon they had a settlement.

A year later the women and children came. And so they built again…

They built homes for families…

And more homes…

They worked hard….

And worked….

And worked…

And built….

And worked…

And built…

They even built a church.

They defended their homes.

And created a legend. No not that one!

Pocahontas saved John Smith’s life and would eventually marry John Rolfe.

The Powhatan Village

Then one day John Rolfe had an idea – grow Indian tobacco. It became the cash crop of Virginia.

Everyone worked and the settlement grew and grew and grew into a full fledged fully established colony.

Let’s fast forward 150 years give or take to Colonial Williamsburg, the capital of colonial Virginia.
