1 The three ships: Susan Constant, Godspeed, and Discovery arrived at Jamestown May 13, 1607 105 men and boys founded the colony. It was the first English settlement in America.

2 The Jamestown Church Tower dates from 1639. It was build on the Jamestown colony site.

3 Jamestown houses were built with thatched roofs. The houses were framed with wood and built with mud. Then a fort was build around it.

4 People wear costumes like the clothes worn a long time ago. You can see this in the Fort James exhibit.

5 This is a master glassblower. He makes glass for lanterns and cups. His chair lets him shape the glass.

6 Pocahontas was the Indian princess daughter of Chief Powhatan. She saved the starving colonists in 1614. She married John Rolfe.

7 This is a picture of Captain John Smith. He was leader of the colony and helped the colonists survive.

8 The Jamestown Monument celebrated Virginia’s 300th birthday. The U.S. government built the monument in 1907.

9 A statue of Captain John Smith is on Jamestown Island. It marks the first English settlement in America.
