4 The Brief: ‘Museum without Walls’ Introduce basic research skills Encourage the development of a wide range of approaches to information gathering Build knowledge and awareness of historical and critical context of art and design practice

5 Key stages Allocation of an iconic ‘object’ (today) Formal training in research skills using Library resources (tomorrow) Finding out whatever you can (this week and the next 3 weeks) to prepare an information sheet on your ‘object’. Meeting staff in groups to talk about your findings so far (see timetable) Add your information sheet to a First Year Timeline by Monday 22 October

6 What should be on the ‘information sheet’ ? Include at least ONE clear image of your ‘object’ and 300-500 words describing: –What it is, who ‘made it’ and when? –Why you think it might be important. –What it means to you? Make it INTERESTING and LEGIBLE Size? 2 sheets A4 max. Add your name and research sources

7 Key Dates and Times Tomorrow - meet in your Groups with Jim Fiddes Research : 1 2 3 4 Training 9.30 11.00 1.30 3.00 Meet in entrance to Library, Business School Building Wednesday, 3 October – Lesley and Jim available for advice on 5 th Floor of Library (2 floors up!) 10-12 Wednesday, 10 & 17 October – Research days. Attend seminar as scheduled. Wednesday, 22 October – Final deadline for posting information sheet.
