1
Macromolecule Lab Set up
2
Title The effect of _________ on ___________.
3
Introduction Only one introduction, 3 paragraphs: – 1. explain macromolecules and indicators – 2. describe the lab procedure – 3. relate to chemistry and real life
4
Hypothesis (4) You will write a hypothesis for EACH molecule tested, in if/then/because format: – Carbohydrates – Lipids – Proteins – Starch
5
Materials (4) Create a list of materials used for each of the 4 macromolecules tested.
6
Methods (4) List your methods for each of the 4 macromolecules tested.
7
Variables/Controls (4) Each macromolecule will have different variables/controls, so you will need this 4 times too: – Dependent (what you are measuring) – Independent (what you are manipulating) – Confounding (what stays the same) – Control (what you are comparing it to)
8
Data Table (1)
9
Graph No graph is needed for this experiment
10
Conclusion (1) Only one conclusion, 3 paragraphs: – Discuss results, support/refute hypothesis – Sources of error? Changes if you were to repeat? – Relate to real life
11
Literature Cited (1) Cite your sources! – This ppt – Your notes – Lab procedure – Etc.
12
Protein Dependent variable: Color change of solution Independent variable: Protein Confounding variable: test tubes, droppers, Biuret’s solution Control: water Expected results: the tube with protein will turn purple, the tube with water will stay clear
