2 The Time is NOW Now is the time to brainstorm Now is the time to dream. Now is the time to plan. Now is the time to build and encourage your team. ACTION! Now is the time for ACTION!

3 The Person is YOU It’s not the person next to you It’s not someone else in your club It’s not the last president It’s not going to go away It’s YOU It’s YOU You Must Lead NOW

4 Does Your Club have the Entire 2006-07 Team in Place ? Board Members / Officers? Committee Chairs? Committee Members? Structure varies by Club – but key is to have your team in place now – don’t wait until July 1 st.

5 Start Planning on all Levels Assistant Governors Plan with your President Elects and the District Governor President Elects: Plan with your board, officers, committee chairs, and club members. Board members and committee chairs: Plan with your committee and sub- committee members.

6 Planning on all Levels Hold planning meetings now. Leaders – prepare for these meetings! Get involvement and buy-in from your team and club members.

7 What should be in your Action Plans? WHO – Which person or committee has responsibility? WHAT/HOW – What is expected to be accomplished? Be specific. WHEN – When does it need to be completed to support the club or other planned actions?

8 Check Your Calendar Check with your AG or District Secretary for dates of District Events. Work with the District so club events are not planned over key district events – Allow your members the opportunity to go to both.

9 Build Training into your Plans Plan now to send members to training and other events thru the year: Membership / Vocational Seminars Foundation Celebration and Training 2007 PETS / SETS 2007 Club Leadership Training 2007 District Conference Get commitments from your team on dates early in the year.

10 Presidential Citations Examine the requirements for Presidential Citations early – NOW - during planning. Build citation requirements into your committee and club planning sessions.

11 Planning should be Realistic Don’t Limit your ideas but keep plans workable for the club. Consider: Available Resources / Skills Realistic Timing

12 Planning should be Realistic “All Grand Strategies Eventually Deteriorate into Work” - Peter Drucker

13 Getting your Plans Down on Paper President Elects use the “Planning Guide for Effective Rotary Clubs” Committee Leaders/ Service Chairs: use the “ Action Guide” (How and What).

14 Attributes of a Good Plan Cleary Defined Responsibilities. Measurable Results or Outcomes. Completion Dates Defined. Buy-In from all Stakeholders.

15 Check Your Progress Review your plans at board meetings and club meetings. Check progress against plans. Make adjustments but stay focused.

16 Reward the Team Be liberal with Thank You Give special recognition for meeting goals

17 Celebrate Success Nothing builds commitment like success Build on small achievements Reward success at every step

18 Resources Assistant Governors District Committee Chairs District Governor District Secretary District Directory RI and District Web Site

19 The Time is Now If 80% of your work is not already done on July 1 st – it will be very difficult to ever catch up before the next Rotary year. 100% of your planning needs to be done prior to July 1 st.
