2 In short, employees who are comfortable will be more efficient.
What is Ergonomics? Ergonomics is the study of equipment design, as for the workplace, intended to maximize productivity by reducing operator fatigue and discomfort. In short, employees who are comfortable will be more efficient. Ergonomics is also referred to as biotechnology, human engineering, and human factors engineering.

3 Why is Ergonomics important?
Ergonomics is a very serious study since poor working conditions cause Musculoskeletal Disorders, including: tendonitis carpal tunnel syndrome bursitis deQuervain’s disease ganglion cyst thoracic outlet syndrome less precise entries such as sprains, strains, tears, or even just pain

4 Ergonomically Designed Devices
Height-adjustable desks are found at some libraries and universities that accommodate people of all heights.

5 More Ergonomically Designed Devices
When typing, constantly looking from the keyboard to the screen can cause discomfort of the neck. Devices that raise the keyboard allow the user to look down with their eyes instead of their neck. Ergonomically designed chairs such as the one pictured above help to improve posture and reduce back pains.

6 Ergonomic Recommendations
Use body posture as a tool that can be changed to meet the job demands with minimum stress on the muscles, ligaments, bones and joints. Learn and use appropriate body mechanics to limit extra mechanical stress in completing the task. Maintain fitness and flexibility and develop a reserve of strength.

7 What should Winthrop do to be better designed ergonomically?
Computers in labs could be equipped with devices that raise the keyboard so that students may avoid straining their neck. Workstations could be height-adjustable, allowing all students to be comfortable. Chairs that take the strain off of students’ back and improve posture could be put in all classrooms.

8 The End Thank you!
