2 Who we are Ballincollig Credit Union ( BCU ) opened in February 1972 BCU moved to it’s, custom built, premises in 1987 A major renovation was completed in 2013 BCU has 17,000 members in a growing vibrant community

3 Our Vision BCU to be the most trusted, respected and sought after financial institution, in our Community, providing value based innovation, financial education and support to our members, employees, volunteers and the communities we serve. BCU to be at the core of the vibrant local economy and lending Credit Union in the county. To grow BCU and enable it to provide members with a wide range of modern services they deserve. Our members needs are foremost in our decision making. Our aim is to deliver a friendly, efficient and quality service to our members at all times.

4 Our Values Community Service BCU is an integral part of our community. Support and development of the local community remains at the heart of what the credit union is all about. We are delighted to sponsor and support many local organisations and groups. 6 To be a volunteer of Ballincollig Credit Union you must be A member of Ballincollig Credit Union Over 18 years of age Have sufficient time to devote to the role of volunteer/Director and its responsibilities Willing to undergo Due Diligence and Fitness and Probity. Other terms may apply to the post associated with the Board of directors/Oversight Committee

8 Role of a Committee The purpose of committees is to support the work of the Board in dealing with the day to day aspects of the organisation. The role of each committee is to recommend from its findings to the Board. Only the Board can make a decision from the recommendations unless the Board have outlined specific duties to the committee. There must be a minimum of one Board member on each committee who in turn reports back to the board. Each committee operates within Terms of Reference’s set down by the Board of Directors. Each Committee will elect a Chairperson and Secretary.

9 Role of the Board Oversight Committee: Main aim is to ensure the Board of Directors is acting within the policies and strategic plan and discharging its duties accordingly. Must attend board of directors meetings and report to the board quarterly with their findings.

10 Role of the Board of Directors The board of directors are responsible for ensuring there is a strategic plan, policies and guiding the manager in carrying out their duties of the day to day business of the credit union. The board does not get involved with day to day running of the organisation. The board is responsible for ensuring the mission statement is upheld and the member’s interest is at the heart of every decision made in respect to the credit union business/going forward.

11 Time Commitment: Each Volunteer is expected to prepare for and attend meetings. Board meetingBoard meetings can last between 2-3 hours per meeting. They take place in the evening. There are a minimum of 10 regular board meetings per year as well as special board meetings to include meeting with external auditors etc. Committee meetingsCommittee meeting can be held in the day or evenings and they can last between 1-2 hours approximately. Training & developmentVolunteers are required by legislation and regulation to attend education/training sessions; this may involve evening and/or weekends.
