2 BREAKING TIES The US has wanted Cuba to be a democracy, but in January 1961, the US cut their ties with Cuba.

3 BREAKING TIES CONTINUED The US had broken their ties with Cuba, once this happened Cuba became allies with the Soviets.

4 THE BAY OF PIGS DISASTER Backed by the U.S government, a group of Cuban exiles were allowed by President John Kennedy to invade Cuba.

5 THE BAY OF PIGS CONTINUED This U.S government wanted this invasion to succeed but would not aid the Cubans during the process with air support.

6 THE BAY OF PIGS CONTINUED With no air support the Cubans had failed to invade Cuba and were captured and killed by the Cuban Army.

7 THE MISSILE CRISIS The Soviets moved missiles to Cuba to be able to strike the United states at any time.

8 THE MISSILE CRISIS CONTINUED The U.S couldn't allow the Soviets to obtain such an advantage so they formed a blockade.

9 THE END OF THE MISSILE CRISIS After a short time period, the Soviets dismantled their missiles and stopped the U.S from attacking Cuba.

10 CASTRO’S RETIREMENT In February of 2008 Fidel Castro had announced that he could no longer be the president of Cuba.
