Note Card Preparation  Underline key words and phrases in your outline.  Copy key words or phrases onto the card in proper order.  Include citations on the note cards.  Do not use full sentences on cards unless they are direct quotations.  Review your cards and delete information you can recall easily.

3. Note Card Preparation  Highlight material you have a difficult time in reading.  Number the cards.  Make sure your handwriting is legible.  Do not write too small.  May type-make font large enough to read easily  Do not abbreviate key words or phrases unless you can recall them easily.

4. Note Card Usage  Do not read directly from your note cards; only glance at them while keeping audience eye contact constant.  Do not play with, crumble, twist, turn, tear, or bite the cards while speaking.  Hold the cards in one hand.

5. Note Card Usage  Maintain eye contact when moving to the next note card.  Hold the cards in your hand at all times unless using a podium.  Practice giving your speech while using your note cards.  NOTE CARDS ARE NO SUBSTITUTE FOR PRACTICE!
