2 Technology Education Race To The Top: –Project Title 05/04: Curriculum and Formative Assessment for ITEEA –Criteria: (B)(3) Supporting the transition to enhanced standards and high-quality –The project will provide funds for: The ITEEA Consortium Fee for up to four years Unlimited curriculum usage and reproduction (K-12) as well as unlimited assessment usage and reporting 2

3 Technology Education At the high school level, Technology Education is a graduation requirement that includes the application of knowledge, tools, and skills to solve practical problems and extend human capabilities (COMAR 1992). As Science is the study of the natural world, Technology Education is the study of the man- made world. 3

5 State Wide Impact 18 of 24 Local School Systems are participating in the Maryland Network Agreement or Maryland Assessment Agreement –Approximately 122 High Schools and 275 Teachers Total Number of Maryland High Schools = 184 public high schools Percentage of High Schools Voluntarily Participating in either the Network or Assessment Agreement = 66% 5

8 Gateway To Technology Race To The Top: –Project Title 51/71: STEM Project Lead The Way – Gateway To Technology –Criteria: (E)(2) Turning Around the Lowest Achieving Schools –The project will provide funds to: Implement the Project Lead The Way, Gateway To Technology program in 10 low-performing middle schools. 8

11 Gateway To Technology There are currently 48 middle schools in 11 school systems implementing the PLTW GTT program. 11

James Gholson Middle School –Oxon Hill Middle School –Thomas Johnson Middle School –Thurgood Marshall Middle School 12
