2 History of the LA/OC Regional Consortia Need for improved communication between CCCCO and CTE/Economic Development Deans Began July 1994 by Vice Chancellor Phoebe Helm Funded by Perkins IV IIB State Leadership Funds

3 Division of Regions in California 10 regions within California 3 regions are double regions – LA and Orange County double region Each region serves the unique needs of its region Grant RFA identifies objectives and minimum activities

4 2009-2010 Objectives for Regional Consortium

5 Objective 1: Continue to support the consortium of colleges in the LA/OC Co Region through: Solicit Input from a Steering Committee o Chief Instructional Officers (CIO) o Economic Development Practitioners o CTE Dean o CTE Faculty appointed by the Academic Senate o Regional Tech Prep Directors

6 Conduct monthly meetings of CTE/Economic Development Deans o Program Approval Process Collaborate with Perkins Industry and Service Advisory Committees/Projects Meet with Economic Development Initiatives Communicate with Chancellor’s Office Staff and Chairs from other regions

7 Program Approval Process Labor Market o EDD o Employer Survey Non-destructive competition – Regional Approach Announcement of intent Advisory Committee Minutes One vote per college for approval

8 “The LA/OC Regional Consortium was a valuable resource to me when Perkins IV was re- authorized. As a new administrator, I relied on the input and experience of this group to develop our own local plan, understand core indicators, and later negotiate performance levels. 9 Objective 2: Increase the visibility of CTE and Economic Development opportunities Web Site with links to other relevant sites www.laocrc.com o Posting meeting agenda and minutes on web site o Links to all 28 colleges in the region o Career Program matrix for counselors Representation on county-wide Economic Development committees.

11 Objective 3: Improve the linkages among CTE, Economic Development Initiatives, & WIB’s Established Ideal Partnership Initiative – WIB partnership Facilitate Faculty Meetings Health Science, Business, Auto Tech, Child Development, Green Initiative Conduct meetings for Tech Prep Directors/Coordinators

14 Objective 4: Offer Staff Development Activities Based on Needs in Region. Conduct State-wide Leadership Institute yearly Participate in State-wide Special Populations Workshop Presented proposal for State-wide Skills for New Deans Offer specific workshops at monthly meetings o Core Indicators o Process for developing a local Perkins plan o New Program Development & use of LMI o How to offer courses/programs through contracts and outside funding

15 Workforce Leadership Institute Leadership skills Networking with other practitioners One CTE or Economic Development administrator or emerging leader from each college statewide FREE to participants Conference setting Funded by Regional Consortia Professional presenters
