1 7 Areas of Intellectual Activity

2 Instructions The following PPT will explain to you the 7 Areas of Intellectual Activity. Create rainbow notes with 4 colors of paper. Label the top “7 Areas of Intellectual Activity” Each of the following steps will be labeled with one of the areas.

3 Instructions (cont.) Record on the space above that is covered by the flap the information from the PPT Also include in that space an activity that you could do with children that involves or encourages development of that area. This assignment is not complete without both the notes and the activity descriptions.

4 Memory Being able to remember information and experiences

5 Reasoning Involves sorting information in order to make decisions, and solve problems

6 Imagination Seeing and/or experiencing things that are not really there Children use imagination to connect what they see and hear with themselves

7 Creativity This is when imagination is used to produce something
The product an be tangible or intangible

8 Curiosity The desire to learn or know about something
Includes exploring and asking why

9 Perception Receiving and interpreting the information received through the senses Seeing a person and realizing that it is a man and he is wearing a blue shirt and humming “Old Macdonald”

10 Attention The ability to ignore the majority of information the senses receive and concentrate on one item of interest. Attention span – the amount of time a child is able to block out extra information
