Can the teenagers of Israel and Palestine today recover from the violence they have faced all their lives? The teenagers of Israel and Palestine today won’t be able to recover from the violence they have faced all their lives. This war, that has been causing various problems for Israelis and Palestinians, has started since 1940s in a small strip of land called Gaza. Although Israelis and Palestinians had set peace agreement for six months on June 19 th, the conflict started again in 2008. The schools were destroyed and many teenagers died in Gaza. It will be difficult for the teenagers of Israel and Palestine today to survive easily from the violence and the war.

Timeline of Gaza Conflict between Israel and Palestine (2008~2009) The Gaza Conflict, which started recently, was started by Hamas who launched 70 rockets into Israel. But many nations around the world are blaming Israel for having too much violence. Both of them should be blamed for causing the war. December 19 th, 2008: Six month Israeli-Hamas peace agreement ended December 24 th, 2008: 70 rockets launched by Hamas; Israelis killed a Palestinian gunman as a response December 26 th, 2008: Israelis re-opened border crossings to enter Gaza December 27 th, 2008: 229 Palestinians killed and 700 wounded by Israelis bombing 40 compounds; About 80 attacks as reaction from Hamas December 29 th, 2008: 80 rockets fired by Hamas January 1 st, 2009: Nizar Rayan, the key leader of Hamas, killed; 40 rockets fired by Gaza militants into Israel January 3 rd, 2009: 20~40 rockets in southern Israel fired by Hamas January 4 th, 2009: Gaza invaded by Israel; Gun battles in Gaza overnight; 36 rockets fired during the morning by Hamas

How many Israelis and Palestinians were killed?  About 335 children, 98 women, and 600 men killed in Gaza  Number of children including the teenagers were more than a quarter of those killed  Over 4,850 Palestinians injured, recently  13 Israelis killed, 82 civilians and 77 soldiers of Israel injured If you compare the number of people killed during the Gaza conflict, you can find out that the number of Palestinians killed and injured was much more than the number of Israelis in bad conditions. You might be able to figure out how stronger Israelis are than Palestinians by knowing these facts.

How teenagers think about Gaza conflict and how they survive in Israel and Gaza… In Israel and Gaza, teenagers are wanting to change their lives somehow, but they do not know what they should do to achieve their goals. There are many reasons for why they don’t know what they should do. Some of them are because the teenagers in Israel and Gaza… cannot live with their families in peace look at people dying or suffering everyday wake up in the morning listening to the announcers saying how many people died last night feel stressful because of the conflict are killed for no reason A Palestinian teenager who was arrested by Israeli soldiers at the checkpoint

How Palestinians are treated by Israelis… Many teenagers of Palestine were killed and injured by Israeli soldiers. But some teenagers of Palestine were used as human shields for Israelis instead of being shot, which could be less insulting than to be used as human shields. Israelis treated Palestinian teenagers as their weapons to win the war. Seven civilian teenagers of Palestine inhabiting in Gaza killed and injured by Israeli soldiers on April 14 th, 2008; Majority of these killed teenagers = eighteen-year old young adults in the refugee camps 31 Palestinians including 15 children injured by Israelis firing at the crowds Palestinian teenager held as human shield at a checkpoint by Israeli soldiers Innocent Gaza women and teenagers killed by Israeli soldiers An eleven-year old Palestinian girl called Lina Hasan killed after shot by Israeli tank at Gaza city Forty Palestinians, including teenagers, killed when bombs exploded in United Nations school Thirty-seven primary and secondary schools, for Palestinian children, destroyed and damaged by air strikes Palestinian children killed by Israeli soldiers and air strikes

Stories about Palestinian teenagers, Wadad Saba and Baha Wadad Saba was an innocent fifteen-year old Palestinian teenager. Wadad’s teachers sent to detention camps when she was seven years old Wadad at great risk of being killed by Israeli soldiers in the school Separated from her family members Full of fear and anger Wadad’s hometown, Palestine = the property of Israel Wadad could never forget about her childhood, how she had been treated by Israelis. This true story about a Christian Palestinian teenager, Wadad Saba, fully explained that during the Gaza conflict, numerous teenagers were strongly influenced by the war. So that it will be very difficult for Israeli/Palestinian teenagers to recover from the violence they have faced all their lives. It has been very difficult for a sixteen-year old boy, Baha, to recover from violence of Gaza conflict between Israel and Palestine. Baha’s life was as miserable as other Palestinian teenagers’ lives. To maintain one’s life has been one of the most difficult task Baha had ever received in his life. This Palestinian teenager’s life has been strongly affected by the Gaza conflict. In the basement of Gaza city, there lived Baha and his sixteen family members A desire to stay alive and to maintain life explained by Baha during the conversation with Unicef Drinking clean water desired by Baha because there was no existence of clean water in Gaza city No more schools for Baha to be taught at because of bombs sent from Israel

According to the facts that the Gaza conflict has been continued for more than 60 years, about 6,000 people from Israel and Palestine has been killed or injured, the ways teenagers are treated, and how the teenagers think about the Gaza conflict, you can figure out how difficult it is for the teenagers of both countries to recover from the violence. Also, some examples, provided in previous slides of the presentation, explain about the miserable lives teenagers of Israel and Palestine experienced.
