4 Read Book to Class  Takes children through a tour of different categories of the food pyramid, helps them recognize the different categories, such as fruits, grains  Gives children an in-depth description of servings

5 Activity Correlating with Book  Set up stations with different foods  Students will categorize foods into the different categories of food groups  Also, to practice how many servings are needed for each group, will have students work in their groups to determine whether they remember how many servings each category needs

6 Online Computer Game – My Pyramid Blast Off  Students learn more about the food pyramid by playing this game  Have different food items and sort the foods into different categories

7 Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills for Health Education  Subchapter A  §115.5. Health Education, Grade 3 (b) Knowledge and skills. (1) Health behaviors. The student explains ways to enhance and maintain health throughout the life span. The student is expected to: (D) describe food combinations in a balanced diet such as a food pyramid

The student recognizes that a line can be used to represent numbers and fractions and their properties and relationships. The student is expected to locate and name points on a number line using whole numbers and fractions, including halves and fourths. (3.11) Measurement. The student directly compares the attributes of length, area, weight/mass, and capacity, and uses comparative language to solve problems and answer questions. The student selects and uses standard units to describe length, area, capacity/volume, and weight/mass.
