Food Styling Is Aesthetics When food is styled, it is made to look better. Just like your hair is styled or clothing is made to appear more “put together” by a stylist! 2Copyright © Texas Education Agency, 2012. All rights reserved. Images and other multimedia content used with permission.

Think about the following when photographing food: TIPS: FILL THE SPACE! ZOOM IN! USE THE RULE OF THIRDS. DON'T CENTER YOUR SUBJECT IN THE MIDDLE. TAKE THE PHOTO AT A NATURAL ANGLE, SITTING DOWN, NOT FROM ABOVE! PHOTOGRAPH FOODS THAT ARE NICELY ARRANGED IN MULTIPLE COLORS. IF PHOTOGRAPHING DESSERTS, MAKE SURE IT ISN'T JUST ONE CUPCAKE OR DOUGHNUT. INCLUDE MANY TO SHOW RHYTHM OR MOVEMENT. Copyright © Texas Education Agency, 2012. All rights reserved. 6 6 What NOT to do: TOO FAR AWAY MOSTLY GREEN & YELLOW. Not enough color variation.

TOO MUCH OF THE SAME COLOR Copyright © Texas Education Agency, 2012. All rights reserved. Images and other multimedia content used with permission. 7

TOO MUCH OF THE SAME COLOR, AGAIN!!! Copyright © Texas Education Agency, 2012. All rights reserved. Images and other multimedia content used with permission. 8

TOO MANY THINGS TO PHOTOGRAPH!!! THIS IS VERY COMPLEX AND FAR AWAY. Copyright © Texas Education Agency, 2012. All rights reserved. Images and other multimedia content used with permission. 9

THIS IS JUST RED & WHITE- NOT VERY INTERESTING. Copyright © Texas Education Agency, 2012. All rights reserved. Images and other multimedia content used with permission. 10

You might want to show a recipe during the preparation This works particularly well. Don’t be afraid to throw in some of the ingredients or utensils onto your tabletop! However, remember to zoom in! This photo might be too complex. Copyright © Texas Education Agency, 2012. All rights reserved. Images and other multimedia content used with permission. 11

There may be too much white space in this example, and it’s too centered. Copyright © Texas Education Agency, 2012. All rights reserved. Images and other multimedia content used with permission. 12
