3. Hamlet A hamlet is the smallest kind of settlement, with about eight or ten buildings. The services that a hamlet provides are very limited… it might have a gas station.

5. Village A village typically has between 200 and 800 people. People travel to villages to buy things that they cannot find in their local hamlet.

8. Town Towns are communities with a population of 1000 to 10 000 people. Most towns have a main shopping area and provide everything that the residence need.

11. City A city has a population of 10 000 or more people. Most Canadians live in large cities. All cities provide more goods and services than do towns, including luxury items.
