3 What do we mean by Youth Support? Youth Support addresses the risk factors that may result in poor outcomes and helps build vulnerable young peoples resilience

4 Youth Support aims to: Develop young people’s social and emotional skills enabling them to make positive choices, manage change and navigate risk Raise young people’s aspirations and help them to achieve and feel positive towards learning Help foster supportive and positive families, communities and peer groups

5 Youth Support is part of Early Intervention / Prevention Early intervention is defined as “ intervening early and as soon as possible to tackle problems emerging for young people and their families or with a population most at risk of developing problems. Early intervention may occur at any point in a child or young persons life”

12 Youth Support Integral to Integrated Services Focus on vulnerable young people -11-19 (and up to 25 for young people with additional needs) and families Targeted work in schools and post 16 with young people at risk of not progressing

13 Local Authority Responsibilities Encouraging, enabling or assisting young people’s participation in education, training or work Tracking young people’s participation in order to identify those who need support utilising the local Client Caseload Information System (CCIS) Completing learning difficulty assessments (under section 139a of the Education and Skills Act 2008) for those young people with a learning difficulty and/or disability up to the age of 25
