5 Security Council This is the smallest committee, but also the most demanding. It has 15 members, 5 of which are permanent (P5 - United Kingdom, United States, France, China and Russia) while the other ten change. Its main role is 'the maintenance of international peace and security'. Chair: Bishka Chand Vice chair: Josh Portway

6 Economic and Social Council ECOSOC is focussed on the sustainable development of all nations, and as such has a mandate for the implementation of the internationally agreed development goals. The prosperity of LEDCs and LDCs is of great importance to ECOSOC. Chair: Saif Imran

7 Human Rights Council HRC's role is to ensure the creation and protection of human rights in all nations, and to ensure that all people are aware of and able to exercise their rights (including the right to live, the right to be treated fairly, the right to go to school and the right to democracy). Chair: Jenny Warren

8 Environment Programme UNEP assesses global, regional and national environmental trends and assists with the development of national and international environmental instruments and institutions for the 'wise management of the environment'. Chair: Issy Marsh

9 World Health Assembly WHA's primary role is to 'direct and co-ordinate international health within the United Nations system. This includes improving health systems, dealing with communicable and non-communicable diseases and preparedness, surveillance and response to diseases. Chair: Ben Rowley
