12 South Sudan What would lead to Sudan having issues within the country? Why might South Sudan want to become independent? How might issues still exist within South Sudan?

13 South Sudan-Political South Sudan started to fight for independence based upon political, economic, and social issues. Politically, the area of South Sudan was unable to participate within the government of Sudan. Through civil wars South Sudan was able to become independent in 2011 in order to govern themselves. Millions have died due to these civil wars.

14 South Sudan-Economical Southern Sudan contains a huge resource of oil They want to be in control of what to do with this resource. However, South Sudan is severely underdeveloped and do not have the capital resources to take advantage of this oil.

15 South Sudan-Social Due to European colonization, Northern Sudan was left with much of the power and trying to force Islam upon the people of Southern Sudan who were majority Christian. Southern Sudanese leaders also thought once Sudan became independent the Northern leaders were not following through on creating a federal system. The final rebellion happened in 1983 and continued into 2005 due to the removal of an autonomy agreement for South Sudan. The Comprehensive Peace Agreement granted South Sudan autonomy and representation in the national government as well as the path for South Sudan to become independent.
