2 3GPP2 Primary Specifications
3GPP2 is focused on the development cdma2000®1 technologies. Air Interfaces cdma2000 1x – Rev 0 through E HRPD – Rev 0 through C Core Networks TIA-41 cdma2000 Wireless IP Network Open Service Access - Application Programming Interface Legacy MS Domain Multimedia Domain Multimedia Messaging Services Access Network Interfaces System Applications Vocoders 1cdma2000® is the trademark for the technical nomenclature for certain specifications and standards of the Organizational Partners (OPs) of 3GPP2. When applied to goods and services, the cdma2000® mark certifies their compliance with cdma2000® standards. Geographically (and as of the date of publication), cdma2000® is a registered trademark of the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA-USA) in the United States.

3 Background 3GPP2 began work on femtocell-related standardization in early 2007 Kicked off through a femtocell workshop in October 2007 in Boston Technical activities were initiated in all 3GPP2 TSGs in late 2007 System requirements Security aspects Air-interface (radio) enhancements Support for legacy 1x circuit services Packet data services for 1x and HRPD (EV-DO) Initial (Phase I) femtocell specifications completed Q1 2010 Revised (Phase II) specs support femtocells connecting to MSC/MSCe, to be completed Q3 2011

4 Key Features Preferred User Zone List (PUZL) as part of Enhanced System Selection (ESS) “Fingerprint” of the FAP (femtocell access point) location by the MS to assist in autonomous scanning and selection of FAPs, including handoff assistance Facilitate automatic FAP selection, black list and white list management in terminals Active handoff from macro to FAP Legacy terminals supported through the reverse-link detection of mobile signal or out-of-band detection Enhanced terminals supported through the new overhead message that advertises unique FAP identity Air interface enhancements for 1x and EV-DO Operates with unmodified macrocell systems (1x and EV-DO) Allows flexible partitioning of PN code space between macrocell system and femtocell system Augmented overhead for quick discovery of unique FAP identity, access type (open/restricted), human-friendly ID, location information

5 S.R0139 Femtocell System Overview
In final stages of development – expecting publication 3Q 2011 ftp://ftp.3gpp2.org/TSGS/Working/_2011/ Dallas/Plenary/S B__(Editor)%20S%20P0139-0%20Femto%20Systems%20Overview%20Draft_013.pdf Provides an overview of 3GPP2 femtocell specifications and features Includes operator deployment guidelines Some contents include: System Architecture Overview RF Planning Guidelines Interference Management Access Control Femtocell System Security Aspects Overview of Mobility Solutions

6 3GPP2 Femtocell System Architecture
Two possible architectures for voice SIP/IMS approach for connecting femtocells to IMS convergence server Legacy IOS interface connecting to existing MSC/MSCe Packet data service model Reuse existing interfaces (A10/A11) to PDSN from FAP Security architecture using IPsec/IKEv2 Certificates with simple authentication model Basic IPsec/IKEv2 profiles TR-069-based management architecture Specification of Management Object contents and procedures

7 3GPP2 Femtocell System Architecture (IMS)

8 3GPP2 Femtocell System Architecture (Legacy IOS-based)

9 LIPA and RIPA WWW Operator’s IP Domain Home IP Domain
Remote IP access allows handset in macro network or public IP network to securely communicate with IP host in home domain as if it is at home. Handset in macro network WWW Operator’s Backhaul Internet TV Residential Backhaul (Firewall) PDSN Operator’s IP Domain Home IP Domain Local IP access allows handset at home to communicate with IP host in the operator’s domain and home domain simultaneously. Femto / Router Printer Handset in femto coverage Media Server
