10 Free Speech? o The first two posts were written by American ex-Marine Brandon J Raub. o His mother claims he was taken by FBI and Secret Service on July 16 th 2012 for posting patriotic Facebook posts. o These posts have since been removed from Facebook

11 ‘We are all Khaled Said…’ o The last Facebook page was created in tribute to Khaled Said, a 28 year old who was tortured, beaten and murdered by the Egyptian government – for voicing his political opinion. o It was this page and post that sparked the Egyptian Revolution

13 BUT, DOES FREE SPEECH EXISTS?

14 o As you look at each slide, think about what the Human Right is actually saying – what does it mean? o Do you agree/disagree with it? Discuss in your groups o On your sheet, write down an example of this Right either being followed, or being violated.

20 Real Life Fighters: o Jabeur Mejri: o Arrested and sentenced to 7.5 years in jail. His crime? Publishing articles on, and pictures of, the Prophet Mohamed. o He is considered to be a prisoner of conscience – imprisoned for peacefully exercising his right to freedom of opinion and expression

21 The Peace Community of San José de Apartadó: o The people of San José de Apartadó (Columbia) founded their Peace Community in order to live in peace and not be drawn into this armed conflict. o But because of their refusal to take sides, all the warring parties treat them as enemies. Since the Peace Community’s creation in 1997, more than 170 of its members and other local people have been killed or have disappeared, while others have been threatened or assaulted.
