1 Why did the protests occur? The protests started because the people of Libya did not like their leader. They were being ruled by Col Gaddafi. He came into power during 1969 and was in power until October 20th 2011 when he was killed. He was a dictator that did things that made the people mad such as making people study his beliefs in the Green Book. Some of his beliefs that were in the book were racist and could offend people. He was forcing people to read these and this is just one of many things that made the people mad and want to protest. Another thing he did was not letting people vote. Once he was in power he made himself the dictator which did not allow anyone else to vote or say their opinions about the country. If anyone did say their opinions then there would be harsh consequences such as prison torture or death.

2 What happened immediately after the protests? At first Col Gaddafi blamed it on Osama bin laden supplying drugs to the people of his co untry.Col Gaddafi also shut down any access that citizens had to the outside world ( internet, phone service and arrested anyone that gave an interview ) He also put many people in prisons and tortured them.

3 What is happening in the country now? The government that is now in Libya is called general National Congress. This is the first free election in almost 40 years. The articles that I have been reading say Mustafa Abushagur. But I know there has been other elections since

4 Is this a revolution? why? I think that this is a revolution because the people were fighting for a better government. From all the revolutions we have studied they are all fighting for a change in government. Not all revolutions change anything about the government but this one in Libya did.
