1 Traveling with Injectable treatments for HAE Anne Rowe, RN, BSCN, MEd

2 Travelling with Injectable Medications  During any mode of travel ensure:  Product Temperature is kept between 2 °C and 25°C, always carry the product in an appropriate bag.  Adequate medication and ancillary supplies are carried to treat both prophylaxis and emergency attacks.  Expiry dates do not expire before you return home.  All bottles are labeled in the original boxes. (if you can, take the boxes with you)  Bring lab slips that show that the medication has been issued to you.  Keep a letter from your specialist for emergency department staff.  Some patients wear Medic Alert Bracelets.

3 Traveling by Air  Check the airline’s website for regulations.  Example: if you are flying with Air Canada, visit www.aircanada.com www.aircanada.com  Follow the links “Information and Services  Carry on Baggage  Special Items”.  Medication must be in Original labeled containers.  Medication must be properly labeled with the name of the patient/issuing pharmacy or medical office.  Ancillary supplies are allowed (Carry lab slips with you)  Arrive at Security early (2 hours at a busy time of day).  Be sure to remove the cooling packs from your luggage.  If you plan to leave the country check with customs and immigration of the country you will be visiting.
