4 Training Topic: The Kiwanis Family CNH Key Club District | Key Club International CNH | The original concept of Builders Club (known as Young Builders in the 1930s) was to provide a guidance program to combat disruptive behavior at the junior high and middle school level. From this evolved the idea of a service organization to develop leadership skills in junior high/middle school students interested in making a personal contribution to their home, school, and community. Today, Builders Clubs exist in more than 1300 schools and community locations, primarily in the United States, but are growing rapidly in other major countries worldwide. Builder’s Club Basics

5 Training Topic: The Kiwanis Family CNH Key Club District | Key Club International CNH | 1.Find a site (could be school or community based) 2.Secure a Sponsoring Kiwanis club, Circle K Club or Key Club. 3.Secure a faculty advisor. 4.Collect at least 15 members to start off (recommended) 5.Organize and Charter the Builder’s Club. 6.Launch the Builder’s Club This is only an outline of the process of chartering a Builder’s Club. 6 Training Topic: The Kiwanis Family CNH Key Club District | Key Club International CNH | Have Builder’s Clubs participate in programs that Key Club International endorses and participates in (UNICEF, Children’s Miracle Network, PTP, March of Dimes, etc.) Have multiple connections for Builder’s Clubs, such as local high school, CKI, and/or Kiwanis clubs. Keep the members involved in a variety of service projects and club-sponsored activities to promote the Builder’s Club and draw interest! Tips for a Successful Builder’s Club

7 Training Topic: The Kiwanis Family CNH Key Club District | Key Club International CNH | Circle K blends community service and leadership training with the opportunity to meet many other college students at service projects, conferences, and conventions and form genuine lifelong friendships with people of all walks of life. Intro to Circle K International Circle K International (CKI) is the premiere university service organization in the world sponsored by Kiwanis International. With clubs on more than 550 campuses globally, programming is based upon the tenets of service, leadership, and fellowship.

Nine Divisions: Capital (Northern California & Nevada), Central Coast (Santa Barbara, Fresno), Desert Oasis (Inland Empire, Las Vegas), Foothill (Pasadena, East L.A.), Golden Gate (San Francisco), Magic Kingdom (Orange County), Metro (Los Angeles), Paradise (San Diego, Hawaii), Sunset (South Bay) Major Events: CKI North and CKI South (Similar to Fall Rally) Fall Training Conference District Large Scale Service Project DCON Specific Events: UCSD Masquerade Ball, UCLA Pillow Fight, and more! Attend events sponsored by Circle K (Key to College, joint service projects, etc.) Get in contact with Key Club alumni who are members of their college’s Circle K! How can I get connected to CKI?

10 Training Topic: The Kiwanis Family CNH Key Club District | Key Club International CNH | In addition to interlacing clubs and service projects, the Kiwanis Family conducts and organizes programs that benefit the community and members of different branches of Kiwanis. For example: Kiwanis Family House Key Leader Kiwanis Family Work Days/Special Events Kiwanis Family in the Community

11 Training Topic: The Kiwanis Family CNH Key Club District | Key Club International CNH | Provides temporary housing and support to families of seriously ill or injured children and adults being treated at University of California, Davis, Medical Center, Sacramento.University of California, Davis, Medical Center, Sacramento Vision: to continually provide convenient, restful, secure, and low cost accommodations for the families of patients being treated at the UCD Medical Center or at Shriners Hospital. Kiwanis Family House How you can get involved: Fundraise for KFH (e.g. Awake-a-thons), Volunteer at the Kiwanis Family House, participate in Kiwanis Family –sponsored events that directly benefit the Kiwanis Family House.
