5 Slide 5 Goal 1 – Sustainability Culture Description: Achieve a sustainability culture change through outreach and education. Objective 1.1: Engage the Fort Detrick community in an open dialogue to ensure public awareness and acceptance of sustainability mission. Objective 1.2: Establish a mature community outreach program that allows for adequate transfer of information. 6 Slide 6 Goal 2 – Model Sustainable Community Description: Model sustainable community through partnership and leadership. Objective 2.1: Be a model community through creativity, sound science, impeccable planning and keen foresight. Objective 2.2: Fort Detrick to be a community leader of sustainability such that we produce leaders in the community promoting sustainability. Objective 2.3: Be the catalyst and driving force for collaboration and cooperation on sustainability issues. Objective 2.4: Fort Detrick, an informed community pro-actively including sustainable principles in all areas of community activities. Objective 2.5: Federal and private partners sustaining the fragile environment, meeting critical missions, and being a good neighbor in the community. 6

7 Slide 7 Goal 3 – Optimize Infrastructure Description: Optimize infrastructure investments. Objective 3.1: When updating infrastructure, maximize the potential. Objective 3.2: Program for infrastructure replacement at the end of design life. Objective 3.3: Upgrade and repair wastewater treatment plant by June 2011 to meet future nutrient reduction regulatory requirements. Objective 3.4: Obtain adequate annual funding for continued repair/replacement of failing infrastructure. Objective 3.5: Reduce vehicle trips on and off post. Increased alternative transit options. 7

8 Slide 8 Goal 4 – Renewable Energy Description: Use 100% Renewable Energy Objective 4.1: Zero Net Energy building designs Objective 4.2: Innovative leader in effectively utilizing, creating and conserving energy resources. Objective 4.3: Utilize alternative energy sources to provide 20% of electrical usage. Objective 4.4: Continue to seek new energy conservation technologies and implement. Objective 4.5: Responsibly us an affordable, locally generated renewable energy sources in G.O.V.’s and buildings. Objective 4.6: Set milestones and targets for energy reduction and production. Objective 4.7: Use distributed generation to achieve utility security as well as reliability. 8

9 Slide 9 Goal 5 – High Performance Buildings Description: 100% of buildings to have LEED Platinum Certification Objective 5.1: All buildings must meet the minimum LEED standard. Objective 5.2: Provide adequate buildings conducive to Fort Detrick’s mission, employee safety, and public well-being while conserving water, energy, and environmental resources. Objective 5.3: Elimination of redundant and unessential facilities. 9

10 Slide 10 Goal 6 – Secure Water Resource Description: 70% reduction in surface water withdrawal. Objective 6.1: Have sufficient water supply for projected population growth. Objective 6.2: Adequate water supply provided to all facilities for process use. Objective 6.3: Reduce water consumption so that water can be provided by its own facilities. Objective 6.4: Reduce annual consumption of water. Objective 6.5: Acquire adequate and reliable water resources. Objective 6.6: Implement water conservation methods and technologies. Objective 6.7: Lead in the use, conservation, and reuse of water resources. 10
