Phrase Fragment – A group of words that does not contain a subject or a predicate and does not express a complete thought Ex: On the highway, fortunately, not at rush hour.

5 Methods For Correcting Fragments
Examine the fragment to determine what is missing. (Subject) Make the correction by adding the missing part Ex: created the potato chip (subject missing) Correction: Chef Crum created the potato chip. (subject added) Ex: Eventually after much thought, he (missing predicate) Correction: Eventually after much thought, he decided to change his recipe.

6 Essential Vocabulary Run- on Sentence – a sentence made up of two or more sentences written as if they were one sentences. Ex: The pilot was skillful the plane didn’t hit any vehicles on the road. Comma Splice – The incorrect joining of two sentences with a comma. The pilot was skillful , the plane didn’t hit any vehicles on the road.

A Run on sentence can be correct three ways Divide into separate sentences with a period. Divide into separate sentences with a semicolon Add a comma and a conjunction (and , but, or, for)
