Framing The Session As you gather more and more information in your computer you will need to organize your digital resources and materials in order to be able to manage them more efficiently In this session I will show you how to keep these resources well organized so that you can help other students and teachers to organize their files. You will learn how to organize your computer so it is easier to find files and downloads.

Teaching Let’s look at a sample file structure. Download the “Sample File Structure” and “How to use a flash drive” documents to My Documents.Sample File StructureHow to use a flash drive” We will discuss the difference between a file and a folder. I will show you how to create folders and place documents in them.

Guided Practice You will now practice creating a folder and placing a document in it.

Work Time

Getting Started In a Word document, you will brainstorm on ways in which you can organize your files and folders. You will decide which documents will go into which folder. During your work time you will create folders and place your existing files into them.

Work Time Break into your designated groups. Create subject area folders for each of your classes and other folders for miscellaneous documents that are currently saved on your computers. Make sure to name the folders as they are created. Drag documents, pictures and other downloaded material into the folders to help organize them. Create a new document and save it into one of your folders. Download a picture from the Internet and save it in a pertinent folder. Practice switching between different folders to view contents in each folder..
