What is “Sustained” and “Set Apart”? You will receive added strength when you are sustained by the congregation and set apart. In a setting apart, priesthood leaders lay their hands on your head and give you a charge to act in your calling. You are also given blessings to strengthen and direct you.

What does “Set Apart” mean? President Spencer W. Kimball declared, “The setting apart may be taken literally; it is a setting apart from sin, apart from the carnal; apart from everything which is crude, low, vicious, cheap, or vulgar; set apart from the world to a higher plane of thought and activity”

What else should we be “Set Apart” from? Teasing, bullying Backbiting Ignoring Thinking of our selfish comforts Clicks, or “Coolness” We set the example…obey (i.e. starting opening exercises, sitting in front, reverent, caring)

Elder Eyring’s counsel And so, to everyone, man or woman, girl or boy, who has been called or who will yet be, I give you my counsel. There are a few things you must come to know are true. I will try to put them in words. Only the Lord through the Holy Ghost can put them deep in your heart. Here they are:

How did you get this job? Elder Eyring: “First, you are called of God. The Lord knows you. He knows whom He would have serve in every position in His Church. He chose you. …The person who was inspired to recommend you for this call didn’t do it because they liked you or because they needed someone to do a particular task. They prayed and felt an answer that you were the one to be called.”

What is the job? Elder Eyring: “You are called to represent the Savior. …Just the way you smile or the way you offer to help someone can build their faith. And should you forget who you are, just the way you speak and the way you behave can destroy faith.”

How serious is this work? Elder Eyring: “Your call has eternal consequences for others and for you. …If someone rejects the Savior’s invitation because you did not do all you could have done, their sorrow will be yours. You see, there are no small callings to represent the Lord. Your call carries grave responsibility. But you need not fear, because with your call come great promises.”

How are you supposed to do this? Elder Eyring: “One of those promises is the second thing you need to know. It is that the Lord will guide you by revelation just as He called you. …The words ‘Thy will be done,’ written in the heart, are the window to revelation. …So, your obedience to the commandments, your desire to do His will, and your asking in faith will determine how clearly the Master can guide you by answers to your prayers. ”

Little old me? Elder Eyring: “There is a third thing you need to know: Just as God called you and will guide you, He will magnify you. …There will be times when you will feel overwhelmed. One of the ways you will be attacked is with the feeling that you are inadequate. Well, you are inadequate to answer a call to represent God with only your own powers. But you have access to more than your natural capacities, and you do not work alone.”

Remember who’s work it is President Thomas S. Monson taught: “If any brother or sister feels unprepared— even incapable—of responding to a call to serve, to sacrifice, to bless the lives of others, remember this truth: ‘Whom God calls, God qualifies.’ He who notes the sparrow’s fall will not abandon the servant’s need”

Final Reminder …but behold I say unto you, that by small and simple things are great things brought to pass; and small means in many instances doth confound the wise. small Alma 37:6
