2 1.THE NAME Muay thai is a hard martial art from Thailand and it's similar to other styles of kickboxing. ''Muay'' derives from mavya and ''thai'' comes from the word thai.

3 2.HISTORY The practitioners claims they date back two thousands years. In Thailand evolved from an unarmed combat method used by Siamese soldiers after losing theis weapons in battle. However, others believe that the ancient Siamese military created Muay thai from the weapon-based art of Krabi krabong.

4 Later Muay became in an integral part of local festivals and celebration, even used as entertainment for kings. However, the ascension of king Rama V in 1868 ushered in a golden age for muay, which functioned as a means of physical exercise, self-defense, recreation and personal advancement.

5 After the ocurrence of a death in the ring, it was decided that fighters should wear gloves and cotton coverlets over the feet and ankles. It was also around this time that the term Muay thai became commonly used.

6 3.INDUMENTARY The apparel of the Muay thai consist of shorts and bandage of hands, feet and blackheads as the only protection. When the opponents go on the ring, traditionally one sees them using a Mongkon and Pong malai.

7 Mongkon is a special band interwoven carefully that represents to the gymnasium from wich they come. Pong malai is necklaces with floral ornaments delivered by friends and followers as a gesture of support and good luck.

8 4.THE RITUAL The thai boxer begins a ritual complex as dance called Wai khru ram muay where diverse animals or professions are imitated. The Wai khru ram muay have as an aim to put the highest possible of muscles and help to focus the mind.

10 5.HITS Punching (Chok): The punch techniques in Muay Thai were originally quite simple being crosses and a long (or lazy) circular strike made with a straight (but not locked) arm and landing with the heel of the palmElbow The elbow (Tee sok): can be used in several ways as a striking weapon: horizontal, diagonal- upwards, diagonal-downwards, uppercut, downward, backward-spinning and flying.

11 Kicking (Tae): The two most common kicks in Muay Thai are known as the teep (literally "foot jab") and the teh chiang (kicking upwards in the shape of a triangle cutting under the arm and ribs) or angle kick. The Muay Thai angle kick uses a rotational movement and the are similar to karate kick.

12 Knee (Tee kao): Types of blows to the knee:  Kao Dode (Jumping knee strike) – the boxer jumps up on one leg and strikes with that leg's knee.  Kao Loi (Flying knee strike) – the boxer takes a step(s), jumps forward and off one leg and strikes with that leg's knee.   Kao Tone (Straight knee strike) – the boxer simply thrusts it forward but not upwards, unless he is holding an opponents head down in a clinch and intend to knee upwards into the face.

13 Foot-thrust: The foot-thrust or literally "foot jab" is one of the techniques in Muay Thai. It is mainly used as a defensive technique to control distance or block attacks.
