1 TIDE Final Conference Cluster on Public Transport Organisation Workshop: EBSF2 15 th September 2015 Yannick Bousse, UITP

2 Safe integration of ebuses into existing electric PT infrastructure Different cities and environmental / operational context (re)Charging ebuses “en route” (e.g. trolleybus operated on tram infrastructure) or “opportunity” (battery buses/ hybrids charged from trolleybus, tram, metro network) Optimal battery/mobile energy storage design and charging systems Upgrading trolleybus networks / replacing diesel buses with battery buses or trolley hybrids; New enabling technologies Automatic wiring/de-wiring technology new sub-station design

3 Smart energy management concepts for upgrading existing electric public transport infrastructure for rail To analyse smart energy management concepts for upgrading existing (electric) public transport infrastructure. To define optimised energy management at sub ‐ stations in combination with recuperating braking energy and harging solutions for e ‐ buses and other e ‐ vehicles To identify the potential of using ICT for smart and more efficient energy management (smart energy networks, real time information etc.) To demonstrate key technologies in relevant environments for increased operational and energy efficiency, i.e. flywheel energy storage device in trolleybus/tram sub ‐ station and reversible sub ‐ station for light rail or light rail tram operation on rail tracks for rural PT.

4 Multi-purpose use of electric public transport infrastructure Objectives: Analyse the potential of multi-purpose charging stations to become the backbone for smart electromobility (incl. their cost-effectiveness vs. creating new charging infrastructure) Identify different approaches for safe integration of electric vehicles into existing energy networks Demonstrate what technologies enable such cooperation, e.g. “sub-stations of the future”
