2 What is Work-Based Learning? Students attend school part of the day and work part of the day  1 credit for class work  2 credits for working Students cannot pass without turning in the required paperwork and will be removed from the program if paperwork is not received in a timely manner.  Training Plan  Time Sheets  Employer Evaluations Requirements  16-years-old by September 1  Work a minimum of 15 hours per week  Remain employed for the entire school year  Provide own transportation to and from place of employment  Submit required paperwork in a timely manner with required signatures and/or documentation

3 Your Training Station Your Training Station is your place of employment.  Must be approved by your Training Coordinator (teacher)  Must start working within two weeks from date of enrollment or will be removed from the Career Preparation program and placed into a regular school schedule  Must remain at the same Training Station for the entire school year unless you have been approved to change Always present an image that reflects positively on Judson High School and its Work-Based Learning Program, while at your training station!

4 Training Station Changes Plan to keep the SAME job for the ENTIRE school year!  If it is necessary to quit for any reason, you are to discuss it with your Training Coordinator FIRST, before any action is taken. You MUST give your employer two weeks notice.  If you lose your job or are FIRED, you will have two weeks to find another suitable Training Station, or you will be withdrawn from the program.

5 Your Training Plan Your Training Plan is the individualized information and goals for you at your Training Station.  Consists of a list of attitudes, skills, and knowledge that you plan to learn during your work experience  Formally identifies your Training Sponsor (boss)  Requires signatures from you, your parent(s), your coordinator, and your employer You are expected to assume the responsibilities outlined in this agreement.

6 Coordinator Visits Your Training Coordinator will visit your training station at least once during each grading period.  Some visits will occur when you are there and others when you are not  Purpose of the visits is to allow the Training Coordinator be able to better help you achieve the goals set forth in your Training Plan  Required by Texas Education Agency

8 What is Professionalism? Every student will begin each Monday with a Professionalism grade of 100. The student’s overall attitude and responsible work habits during all class sessions for the week will dictate whether the student maintains a 100 at the end of the week or drops as low as zero on Friday. The student’s Professionalism grade will be decreased in increments of 25 points for each of the following examples of UNPROFESSIONALISM:  Failure to treat peers, the teacher, or other adults with respect.  Failure to dress in accordance with the school dress code.  Reporting to work on a day the student is absent from school.  Failure to call your teacher by 8:45 AM to report your absence from school. Call 945-1100 and leave a message with the school secretary OR text Mrs. Rhodes at 577-2554 to report your absence. There is no excuse for not calling!  Failure to keep appointments with the teacher or with employers without giving advance notice.  Failure to follow through on job leads given by the teacher.  Failure to leave campus immediately after the student’s last class, unless written permission has been granted by the teacher/coordinator.  Being fired.  Any unexcused absence or tardy.  Using cell phones or electronic devices during class time.  Any other situations as determined by the teacher as acts of unprofessionalism.

9 How Do I Get Professional Development Points? THIS IS NOT EXTRA-CREDIT – IT’S PART OF YOUR GRADE! Every student will be required to earn 100 Professional Development Points during each six-week grading period.  A student may earn additional Professional Development Points each six weeks as a means of extra credit. Professional Development Points can be earned as follows:

10 ACTIVITYPOINTS ACTIVE member of DECA – ACTIVE means you participate in activities! 50 ACTIVE member of any other CTSO, such as BPA, HOSA, FFA, FCCLA, etc.  Interest Clubs do not count.  Your Advisor must email me regarding your ACTIVE membership. 25 Competition/Leadership Activities with any CTSO – Performance or attendance at a leadership or competitive event.  Your advisor must email me verifying your participation. 50 Civic or Community Service Activities – written documentation required 50 Professional Dress – WEDNESDAYS ONLY – ALL DAY, NOT JUST MY CLASS (max = 3 per six weeks)  Gentlemen: Dress Shirt, Tie, Slacks, Dress Socks/Shoes  Ladies: Dress Blouse/Sweater & Knee-Length Skirt or Dress Slacks OR Modest Dress, Dress Shoes  NO DENIM, T-SHIRTS, FLIP FLOPS, WHITE SOCKS, TENNIS SHOES, ETC. 25 Time Management System (PDA or Calendar) – used consistently throughout the grading period to record homework, activities, etc. 25 Journal Article Summary (max = 2 per six weeks)  Articles must be business- or marketing-related  Summary should be one half page  Submit a copy of the journal article with your summary or reference the entire web address where the journal article can be found to receive full credit 25 Progress Reports & Report Cards  Must be signed by parent or guardian and returned in a timely manner 25 Other Activities  DECA materials updates, including keying sample tests into online test manager or creating study materials packets for competitions  Assisting teacher with other administrative duties  Other activities teacher deems worthy of professional development points 25
