1 Setting Goals and Making Responsible Decisions
What goals have you set for yourself this school year? (Do right now in your notebook. If you haven’t set any brainstorm to think of some you would like to)

2 Steps of the Decision Making Process
State the situation What decision needs to be made? List your options Question: Is not taking action an option? Who should you consult with after you have come up with options? Weigh the Outcomes Use the HELP system H – Healthful, what health risks are there? E – Ethical, Does this reflect your beliefs? L – Legal, Does this decision violate any laws? P – Parental Approval

3 Steps 4- 6 of Decision Making Process
Consider Values Values are: ideas, beliefs, and attitudes about what is important that help guide the way you live Make a Decision and ACT ON IT Use all the information you have to make a decision at this point in the process Evaluate the Decision What was the outcome? What did you learn? Would you make the same decision again?

4 Decision Making Situation/Problem
A friend asks you to skip school for the day to go to an event (concert, beach.etc), you happen to have an important test that day, you’ve studied for it, but you know the teacher will not allow make ups for the exam unless you have a doctor’s note. Apply the six decision making steps to make a decision. No matter what your decision is, identify the consequences and outcomes positive and negative.

5 Goals Types of Goals Ex) Improving grades over a marking period
Short Term Goal Ex) Finishing a project by Friday Completing homework before dinner Long Term Goal Ex) Improving grades over a marking period Long term goals normally take several months or years to accomplish Short term goals are usually steps in a plan to achieve long term goals! Everyday, every decision counts!

6 Achieving Goals Creating an ACTION PLAN
Write down specific realistic goals List the steps you will have to take to reach your goal Identify sources of help and support Set a time frame to achieve goal Evaluate your progress (milestones) Reward yourself for achieving your goal

7 Action Plan/Goal Example
Goal - Make honor roll first marking period Action plan Write down reminder to myself inside my locker Take better notes in class, do homework after school Seek after school extra help if needed First marking period Evaluate my grades Sept 30, Oct 30, etc Reward!!!

8 Create your own Action Plan
In your notebook for HOME WORK Create a goal and an ACTION PLAN!!!

9 CHARACTER Character is defined as “how you act when no one is watching”

10 What is good Character As a class lets brainstorm together on what it means to have good character
