2 Definition of Marine Equipment Marine equipment (ME*) refers to all products and services supplied for the building, conversion, and maintenance of ships (seagoing and inland). This includes technical services in the field of engineering, installation and commissioning, and ship maintenance (including repair).

3 For simple ships 50% of it is made up of ME* and the other 50% is the value of the steel, shipyard overheads, labour etc. For medium/complex ships this ratio becomes 75:25 with 75% making up the proportion of ME. For Cruise liners it is argued that the ratio of ME* in relation to other services is 85:15. The ME * Breakdown of a Vessel
