1 Warm-up: From your Workbook. p. 57 (13 – 14) AND p.58 (1 – 7)
You may work out the problems in your workbook, but write the final answer on your warm-up page. You have 10 minutes to complete the problems. 13.) a. 8 years; b. $52,000 14.) a. 6 months; b. 128 stamps 1.) 28 ft 2.) 7 days 3.) 16 hrs 4.) 20 months 5.) B 6.) G 7.) C

2 Homework Review Workbook pp. 49 – 50
Reflect 1a. No, you can simplify the right side of the equation by subtracting 18 – 7 = 11 Reflect 2a. Yes, you could divide both sides by 2 and get x – 6 = -9 which has the same solution, x = -3. It makes sense to do this whenever the number being distributed divides evenly into all other terms. It does not make sense if the number being distributed does not divide evenly inot all the other terms as this will lead to fractions appearingin the equation. Practice 1: Distributive property; Subtraction Property of Equality; Inverse Property of Addition; Simplify; Division Property of Equality; Simplify. Practice 2: Subtraction Property of Equality; Mult Prop of Equality Practice 3: Distributive Property; Subtraction Property of Equality; Division Property of Equality

3 What are Literal Equation?
Literal equations are equations involving two or more variables. They are solved using inverse operations and properties of equality just as other algebraic equations are solved.

4 Example: One-Step Literal Equations
Solve for A: Solve for Z: AX = C Y + Z = -8 Solve for H: Solve for R V = LWH C = 2R

5 Two-Step Literal Equations:
Solve for Y: Solve for L: 7X + 14Y = -21 P = 2W + 2L Solve for B: Solve for Y: 5A + 9 = 2A – 3B 3X – 4Y = 10X + 14Z LecturePLUS Timberlake

6 Multi-Step Literal Equations

7 Post-It Check Solve for Y: Solve for W: 3X + 4Y = 12 –3(4T – W) = 4T

8 Classwork: Workbook p. 65 – 66: Silently If we complete this classwork successfully, we will play Password with the properties of equality.

9 LecturePLUS Timberlake
Assessment Check Write your name on a piece of paper. You will complete the following questions on your own. 1.) Solve for C: P = R – C 2.) Solve for Y: 2X + 7Y = 14 3.) Solve for m: LecturePLUS Timberlake

10 Closing & Homework: Closing: 1. Write your own literal equation and solve it. Justify your steps. 2. How is solving literal equations similar and different to how we previously solved equations involving one variable? Homework: Textbook p. 80 (14 – 34) EVEN
