3 Why Consider Open Value? * Must transition licenses within 90 days of OEM purchase. –All licenses on one agreement, including qualified affiliates –Run any version on any desktop PC –Transition new OEM licenses onto your agreement by purchasing Software Assurance* “I want to spend less time managing licenses.” –Savings for organization-wide licensing (minimum five licenses) –Ability to reduce up-front costs with spread payments and get all the licenses you need today –Predictable annual budget “I want predictable costs.” –Upgrade anytime—no need to track versions or open new agreements –Maintain a standard desktop with a customizable platform “I want to take control of my investment.”

4 Open Value Overview The Microsoft® Open Value program is for small and midsize commercial and government organizations with five or more desktop PCs that want simplified license management and better control of their software costs and investment. Open Value Organization-Wide is a three-year, organization-wide agreement that lets you pay annually for the right to run the same version of a licensed product across your organization and to upgrade to the latest versions as they are released. Open Value Subscription allows you to subscribe to, rather than acquire product licenses. It offers the lowest up-front costs of the Open Program options. Non Organization-Wide acquisition is also available by either: – Adding Non Organization-Wide licenses to your company-wide agreement, or – Opening a Non Organization-Wide agreement.

Three License Types Open Value Organization-Wide – Run licensed products for as long as needed (perpetual) on all desktop PCs or servers. – Three-year spread payments. – Additional price level available in most countries for organizations that order licenses for at least 250 qualified desktop PCs through their initial purchase order.* Open Value Subscription – Single price per desktop. – Deploy Microsoft licensed products across the organization only during the agreement’s term. Open Value Non Organization-Wide – License for a portion of desktop PCs. – Three annual payments.

6 Platform Option With Open Value Organization-Wide and Open Value Subscription, the single-platform option offers the choice to standardize desktop PC software across your organization with a customizable platform that allows you to mix and match components. Benefits: – Platform option provides a single license per desktop PC. +Instead of individual licenses for Windows® 7 operating system upgrade, Microsoft Office, and server Client Access Licenses (CAL). – No need to track which version is installed on which desktop PC. – Additional savings when you standardize on all three components*. * Based on reference price. Reseller prices may vary. Eligible government customers have a single price point.

7 Open Value Benefits Single Agreement Open Value lets you purchase all your licenses and upgrades on a single agreement, and purchase only the licenses you need: Central purchasing tracked on a single agreement. Can include qualified affiliates in other countries within your region within a single agreement. Software Management It does not matter which version is running on each desktop PC, which can help reduce business risk: New product versions included; use any version on any desktop PC. Install software at any time; pay later. Supports Standardization Helps you maintain a standard environment, reducing support costs and increasing security: Organization-Wide allows the right to upgrade at any time. Costs spread across the three-year term of agreement. Licensing Management Microsoft Volume License via Volume License Service Center offers more advanced security and control over license tracking: Multiple e-mail addresses can be associated with each agreement. Higher security — new users can be added only with administrator’s permission, and permissions for inactive users can be removed.

8 Economics of Open Value Organization-Wide Value Open Value Organization-Wide lets you pay less for new versions: – 10 percent (organization-wide) savings*. – Lower costs to add licenses in years two and three, because Software Assurance is pro-rated. Open Value Subscription Open Value Subscription lets you pay only for what you use, reducing your costs in the years that you are not using the licenses: – Up to 50 percent savings* in year one for transition from current licenses (N or N-1 versions) – No additional cost on organization-wide licenses added during the year. – Only pay for what you use—ability to adjust desktop PC count up or down each year. *Based on reference price. Reseller prices may vary. Eligible government customers have a single price point.

Without Open Value It may be difficult to know what version is installed on each desktop PC, which can increase business risk: –Natural to install licenses first, pay later. –Inconvenient to track each installation. –May not know who is installing new versions, especially if there are many departments and locations to support.

19 With Open Value Microsoft Volume License Service Center (VLSC) offers more advanced security and control over license tracking: –Multiple e-mail addresses can be associated with each agreement. –Higher security—new users can be added only with administrator’s permission, and permissions for inactive users can be removed. Without Open Value Tracking can be challenging: –In eOpen, one e-mail address is associated with each Open License agreement so that multiple purchasers cannot see all agreements in one view. –Cannot change the e-mail address associated with an agreement when the employee leaves. Without Open Value It can be more expensive to support a non-standard environment, which can be a result of upgrading desktop PCs in phases: –Software preinstalled on new hardware can result in multiple versions of licensed products. –Upgrades budgeted by department, division, or location rather than as an organization. –Upgrades permitted as the IT budget allows.
