3 Marquee Selection Tool It helps in selecting thee areas of an image in geometrical Patterns. one can select a selection using mouse and for deselecting the selection use Ctrl+T. 1. Rectangular Marquee Tool : This tool allows us to select portions of an image in the shape of rectangle or square. 2. Elliptical Marquee Tool: This tool allows us to select portions of an image in elliptical or circular shapes. 3. Single Row Marquee: This tool allows us to select a single row of pixels of an image. 4. Single Column Marquee: This tool allows us to select a Single column of pixels of an image.

4 Marquee Tool Option Bar New Selection Subtracting From the Selection Adding into selection Intersected Selection Used for giving Soft edges to selection Only For elliptical Marquee tool for soft edges Style can be : Normal (takes the size as selected) Fixed aspect Ratio: Ratio of height to width. Fixed Size: Height and width are fixed in this case

5 Lasso Selection Tool This tool is used to make freehand Selections in an image. 1. Lasso Tool: This tool allows us to make freeform selections in an image. 2. Polygonal Lasso Tool: This Tool allows us to make freeform selection in an image in the form of polygonal areas. 3. Magnetic Lasso Tool: While Moving on the area to be selected,this tool sticks to the edges of the image thus making the selection very easy.

6 Magnetic Lasso Tool Options Width: The Magnetic lasso tool detects only edges with the value specified in within the lasso width box. If it has 10px that means select pixels that are within the distance of 10 pixels. Edge Contrast: It decides how sensitive the magnetic lasso tool is to the edges of an image. Frequency: It Decide the rate at which the lasso tool sets the fastening points.

7 Magic Wand Tool The magic wand tool is used to select the adjacent areas of the same color in an image.. The selection referred to as tolerance setting. The higher the tolerance setting value,the wider the range of selected pixels. Magic Wand Tool Options: 1. Anti –Alias: Defines the smooth Edge. 2. Contiguous: select only adjacent area using same color. otherwise all pixels in the entire image is selected using same colors are selected. 3. Sample All Layers : Selects colors using data from all visible layers otherwise the magic wand toll selects color from active layer only.

8 Grow and Similar Command Grow command is used with the selection tools to expand a selection to include adjacent areas with similar colors. I. Open an image. Define selection using marquee tool. II. Double click on magic wand tool to display its options. III. Enter 60 tolerance.click on select menu.click on grow. Pixels of adjoining areas having same color are selected.

9 Similar Command lets you select the non adjacent pixels falling within the range specified in the tolerance option in magic wand tool option bar. I. Open an image.make selection using marquee tool II. Click on magic wand tool.enter tolerance power 60. III. Click on select menu click similar it selects the non adjacent pixels having same color.

10 Moving a Portion of the image Open an image. Make selection using lasso or marquee tool. Click on move tool from the toolbox. Place the mouse pointer inside the selection border. Drag the mouse pointer to move the selection.

11 Copying and Pasting a Selection Open an image make selection using marquee or lasso tool. One selection made then select move tool from the toolbox and click and alt to move the selection. You can paste the selection onto the another image using copy and paste command from the edit menu or you can also paste the selection into another selection in the image using paste into option.

12 Filling the Selection The Fill command in the edit menu is use to fill the selection with : 1. Foreground color 2. Background color 3. With some Pattern You can take pre defined patterns or you can define your own pattern using define command in edit menu.

13 Transforming Selection Photoshop provide us the facility to scale, rotate, skewed or distort portion in the image. Select the portion of the image you want to transform then right click and select free transform. Select the more operations like scale, rotate,skew, perspective and warp. After performing the operation double click to get the image.

14 Inverting a selection Open an image make a selection in the image. Click on select menu and click inverse option. The selection get inverted.
