3 You can say what you want, when you want, and how you want, as long as you don’t infringe on the rights of another. Slander – A spoken untruth Two types of harm can occur with what we say: Physical Mental You cannot attack a persons character with spoken untruths.

4 Libel – A written untruth. You can only print the truth unless it is stated as fiction, for entertainment or coincidental. The Supreme Court has ruled that the term ‘Press’ can be applied to the following: BooksCinema NewspapersTelevision InternetFlyers BillboardsMagazines RadioClothing

5 There are only two requirements for assembly: 1.It must be peaceful 2.Must have a purpose for the meeting

6 A Petition is a formal request. It is made to a representative Allows the representative to know your needs. A teacher is an example of a representative of the school district.

7 You have the freedom to worship any religion Establishment Clause – Government shall have no official religion in the United States. Free Exercise Clause – Allows you to practice any religion you wish. You can belong to any religious group as long as it does not infringe on another’s rights. If there is no official religion, why does the government use the word ‘God’ on it’s currency, in its documents and for oaths and allegiances? There must be a separation of church and state. What makes a religion?

8 Used as a means to form militias to protect citizens against tyrannical rule such as King George III. Read pages 104 and 105. A militia is an organized group of armed citizens. Do guns kill? This amendment is an example of a loose interpretation of the constitution. There are, on average, 18,000 murders in the U.S. every year; 1,400 accidental shootings.
