Startup 1Turn on the power switch on the OIC 4430 Lamp Power Supply 2 Fifteen minutes after turning on the OIC 4430 Lamp Power Supply, it is warmed up and ready to light the lamp. Lighting the lamp usually takes several attempts, so one must be patient. To light the lamp, press the UP ARROW button on the 4430. The intensity (Red LED) will change from zero to one. Below the Intensity display lamp is a LAMP ON light. If the LAMP ON does not stay on, the Lamp is not lit. In this case, press the DOWN ARROW button; the Intensity will return to zero. The Lamp can only be lit while the Intensity is reading zero. Repeat pressing the UP ARROW button until the LAMP ON light remains on. Again, this normally takes several attempts, so be patient. Once the lamp is lit, press the UP ARROW button twice more. The Intensity should now read 2. The instrument is ready to run samples. Completed Date:Prepared By:Approved By: Running Samples 1 Before running any sample, visually inspect it to determine if it is contaminated with oil. Never inject oily samples into the purgetrap apparatus. The sample may be filtered (use the same filters used to filter samples prior to running a distillation) to remove the oil. If this is not feasible, call the appropriate area and request another sample. If the resample is still too oily, notify the Shift Supervisor and record that information in the Benzene logbook. 2The samples are contained in screw top vials with a septum in the cap. 3After rinsing the syringe with the sample to be run, draw 5 mls of sample into it. 4Unscrew the needle and attach the syringe to the white plastic screw fitting at the top of the 4460A Sample Concentrator. 5Turn the gray handle on top so that it points away from you; from 9 o’clock to 12 o’clock. 6Inject the 5 mls of sample into the sparger. Completed Date:Prepared By:Approved By: Running Samples Continued 7Turn the handle on top back to its original position (9 o’clock). 8Press the large red button on the 4460A labeled. This starts the run. You should see gas bubbles purging the sample. 9The run takes about 45 minutes. Twenty minutes of purging and twenty-five minutes of GC run. 10The result will automatically print. 11The 4460A is not ready for another sample until the PURGE READY light (green) comes on. 12Record all results in the lab notebook next to the instrument. 13Input results in Labworks. Shutdown 1Press DOWN ARROW button on 4430 Lamp Power Supply until Intensity reads 0. 2Turn off the power switch on the 4430 Lamp Power Supply.
