2 Unit Summary This unit discusses e-mail use and some of the problems that people experience With e-mail. Reading one provides a guideline for e-mail users to follow when Writing e-mails. Reading Two describes the problems faced by three different People who didn’t follow the appropriate e-mail rules. The companion unit in North Star: Listening and speaking deals with mobile Phone use and the problems associated with using mobile phones in cars and Public places.

3 Vocabulary: Work with a partner. Read each group of sentences. Notice the underlined words. All have the same prefix. Guess the meaning of the prefix and write it on the line. Un- means------------------------ Most doctors agree that potato chips are unhealthy for you. They suggest you eat healthy snacks like fruits and vegetables. Why are these bills still unpaid? Don’t we have enough money in our checking account? She is so unhappy. She just found out that she didn’t do well on the last exam.

In my classroom in Los Angeles, 15 of the children are bilingual---they Speak English and Spanish. One student is trilingual in Chinese, Vietnamese and English. Squares have four sides and four corners. Triangles have three sides and Three corners. Co- means--------------------------- I work with a lot of different people. My co-workers come from ten Different countries. In most big airplanes there are two people who fly the plane: the pilot and The co-pilot.

5 We need to learn to work together. We need to cooperate. Re- means-------------------------- You have a test tomorrow. So let’s review all the new vocabulary words we learned this week. The library is closed for repairs. It will re-open next week at the regularly scheduled time. My teacher says my essay is OK. She thinks if I rewrite it, it’ll be mush better.
