Thermocouple Measurement The 8081 can measure the Cold Junction temperature using a PT100 sensor connected to the rear panel terminals while measuring the voltage from a thermocouple using the front panel terminals. Internal software (8081) automatically converts the measured thermocouple voltage to temperature to ‘C, ‘F and Kelvin readouts for 10 Types of thermocouple (B, E, J, K, L, N, R, S, T, U)

TC Lead (Option) An optional Accessory lead simplifies the connection of thermocouples and thermocouple simulators. The TC Lead contains a 4Wire built in PT100 sensor in a copper thermocouple socket, that automatically measures the Cold Junction Temperature

Advanced Math Functions Auto calculation of Accuracy (based on unit specification) Dynamic Uncertainty calculation Standard Deviation Minimum/Maximum Reading display

Dedicated Electrometer Inputs (8081) Screened input connections for High Resistance measurements to 1TOhm. Screened connections are essential for low noise measurements. Low Current measurement to 0.01pA Selectable Electrometer voltage from 50V to 300V

8000 Series Options Phase – Essential for full calibration of multifunction calibrators with power options, which are standard on products such as Fluke 5500A Transmille Ltd 1997 - 2011

Pressure Measurement on a DMM! Many laboratories have requirements for pressure calibration but cant justify the expense of a dedicated pressure standard The 8081 provides a low cost, easy to use solution covering a wide pressure range using external transducers

Pressure Transducers A List of pressure module is available from our website, covering a range from -1 Bar to 100Bar in two accuracy classes (0.1% and 0.04%) The modules are inter changeable with the 3000A series calibrator

8500 Low Thermal Scanner Automate routine intercomparisson measurements of Standard Resistors Connect multiple PRT Probes

ProGraph Software ProGraph Software – Simple, Easy to use logging software with full built in control for 8000 series DMM and 8500 Scanner

Protecting your Investment Soft & Transit Cases – Custom designed soft and hard cases make transporting the 8000 series easy and safe

8000 Series Key Features Extended Ranges – Extended range and accuracy from competing products AC Voltage to 1000V – Essential for the calibration of multi product calibrators. Note that the 3458A is 750V DC and AC Current to 30A – Required for calibration of many modern current sources and calibrators avoiding the additional cost and confusion of using separate current shunts Resistance from uOhms to Tohms – Laboratories need to measure resistance across ever increasing ranges, the 8081 covers the widest range available in a single instrument Transmille Ltd 1997 - 2011

Multi Interface The 8000 series fitted with RS232, GPIB, LAN and USB as STANDARD! No matter what environment no new interfaces will need to be purchased 8000 Series is SCIPI compatible, making it a direct replacement in existing measurement systems

Other high-end Multimeters are a confusing list of menus and parameters, the 8000 series has been designed from the ground up to be simple to use with direct access to many key functions Transmille Ltd 1997 - 2011 8000 Series – The most user friendly Multimeter

Terminal Indicators – Clearly identifies the correct connections Programmable Front/Rear Terminals & Guard – simplifies automation with full control of all functions Dual VFD Display – Display measurement parameters and reading, never losing sight of the measurement

8000 Series – The most user friendly Multimeter Measurement uncertainty to k=2 (95%) is of increasing importance to many metrologists, any accredited measurement must have an associated uncertainty The 8081 automatically calculates and displays the measurement uncertainty, using noise/flicker, specification and imported uncertainty data This is a KEY feature to many metrologists

Superior low noise performance – high performance low level measurements. Essential to realise lower uncertainties Ratio Functions – Often required by metrologists can be easily automated with electronically switchable front/rear terminals Transmille Ltd 1997 - 2011 Class Leading Performance and Functions

Technical Competitive Analysis

Superior Low Noise Performance Comparisons of the 8081 against the Agilent 3458A in key measurement areas

Low Value Resistance Measurement Settings : Filter Speed 2s, 4 Wire Resistance

Low Value Resistance Measurement Laboratories frequently measure values of 1 Ohm or less during measurement of current shunts and low value standards 1 Ohm is a base value for many measurements and it is often critical for laboratories to achieve low uncertainties at this value 8081 less than 5uOhm of Noise 3458A 90uOhm 8081 almost 20x lower noise than 3458A!!!

High Value Resistance Measurement Settings : Filter speed 2s, Voltage set to 150V

High Value Resistance Measurement High Value resistance is an important measurement for many laboratories to cover high value resistance decade boxes, standards and resistance functions of multiproduct calibrators and electrical test calibrators with values as high as 10GOhms 8081 noise less than 20kOhms 3458A noise is 700kOhms 8081 is over 30x lower noise than the 3458A

Low Current Measurement Settings : Filter Speed 2s

Low Current Measurement Verification of low current is becoming increasingly important as IC’s and products have very low current consumption in standby to meet ‘green’ standards for low energy 8081 noise value 2pA 3458A noise value 62pA 8081 30x lower noise than 3458A!

Competitive Analysis

3458A Comparisson As Discussed earlier, the Agilent 3458A uses a sampling measurement technique. Although this makes the unit very fast, it also makes the measurement very noisy and at times, unstable The 3458A is a 20 year old design, we know that repairs on these units are becoming expensive Limited Ranges, although the Agilent unit states performance in ranges such as 1GOhm and 100nA, the actual usability of the instrument in these ranges is questionable

3458A Comparison (continued) Un-intuitive menu design, all the sub functions of the 3458A are hidden behind multiple layers of menus. This means that settings that can affect your measurement (such as the type of AC V measurement) are very difficult to find GPIB Interface only – Adapter cards are expensive $1000 USD+

8508A Comparison Firstly, the 8508A is a good Multimeter. The main downfall is Flukes pricing scheme The 8508A is based heavily on the old Datron Multimeters, The user interface is once again not well designed, very hard to operate Measurement speed Slow. Is almost double the cost really worth the small performance gains? Certainly not for your average laboratory Most importantly, the 8508A does not have the workload coverage of the 8081 with important measurements such as Phase, Thermocouples and Pressure, and as many laboratories are automating calibration procedures the Scanner available with the 8081

Key Sales Points The 8081 is based upon new technology. The other comparable multimeters use 20+ year old technology Ease of Use – The 8081 has been designed from the ground up to be easy to use, from the dual VFD display to the directly accessible quick keys such as null, filter Cost – Higher Performance, Lower cost than comparable meters

Key Sales Points Unique Electrometer Functionality – Calibrate high value resistors, including voltage co- efficients with the programmable voltage source. Replaces a dedicated electrometer (typically a Keithley), saving up to $5000 Superior Low Noise performance

Discussion……… Why is having Thermocouple/PRT/Pressure measurement an advantage?

Discussion……… Laboratories often have to calibrate thermocouple simulators, such as process control calibrators How do they do this with the competitors products? With the 8081 this is easy No tables, no calculations, directly displayed on the front panel

Discussion…….. Why is having the ability to measure Phase important?

Discussion…… Almost all multi product calibrators have a power option. One of the main reasons for purchasing a high performance Multimeter is for calibrating multi product calibrators. How can you do this with the competition if you cant measure phase? The 8081 has direct Phase measurement capability

Discussion…… Laboratories often have several standard resistors or PRT probes that they will use as comparison calibrations against, how do they automate these time consuming measurements?

Discussion Transmille are the only manufacturer to offer a 10 channel precision low thermal scanner specifically designed for this purpose

Any Questions?
