3 Key Messages  No dual running of Advanced Higher in session 2015-16  Advanced Higher builds knowledge, understanding and skills progressively from Higher.  The same skills previously assessed in Advanced Higher will continue to be assessed in similar ways in the new Advanced Higher.

4 Key Messages - Gàidhlig Unit Assessment in AH Gàidhlig consists of three Mandatory Units: Reading and Writing: Writing and Literary Criticism Skills Specialist Study: of Language and/or Culture Translating and Interpreting Course Assessment AH Gàidhlig consists of 3 components: Component 1 – Practical Criticism 30 marks Component 2 – Literature and Writing 40 marks Component 3 –Performance - Talking 30 marks

5 Key Messages - Gàidhlig Points of change: Translating removed from Course Assessment and is assessed in the Unit Question Paper has been split into two Question Papers; Practical Criticism and Writing and Literature

6 Key Messages – Gaelic Learners There are three Mandatory Units in this Advanced Higher Course: 1.Gaelic (Learners): Understanding Language 2.Gaelic (Learners): Using Language 3.Gaelic (Learners): Specialist Study Structure and coverage of Course assessment Component 1 — Reading and Translation Component 2 — Listening and Discursive Writing Component 3 — Talking Component 4 — Portfolio

7 Key Messages Gaelic Learners Points of change Unit Assessment The four skills previously developed in the Listening and Speaking Skills Unit and the Reading and Writing Skills Unit, are now assessed in a productive skills unit, Using Language, and a receptive skills unit, Understanding Language, following the same unit structure in a hierarchy from the lower levels. The Specialist Study Unit replaces the Literature and Individual Study Unit, opening it up to allow learners to study either Literature or a Language in Work context. Course Assessment Literature is now assessed as a Portfolio, submitted to SQA for marking. Reading now includes a translation section and an overall purpose and inference question, reflecting the new arrangements at the lower levels.

10 Key messages from Verification 2013-14  Use valid and reliable assessments  SQA-produced Unit Assessment Support Packs  Centre devised assessments that have been prior verified  Your own assessments – strongly advise you have these prior verified  Advise staff to go back and look at subject verification comments for N5  Making assessment judgements  SQA packs are designed on a pass/fail basis  Use Judging Evidence Tables to make assessment judgments against Assessment Standards, and have commentary on how to meet each Assessment Standard  A task/activity can meet most or all of the Unit Outcomes and Assessment Standards  Indicate on candidate’s work that Unit Assessment Standards have been met  Unit Assessment complementing learning and teaching  Unit Assessment is open and flexible  Assessment should allow you space to prepare for Added Value/Course Assessment
