No! –West Bridgewater – Senior Project –Randolph – Senior Project –Braintree – Senior Project with Community Service Component –Carver – Senior Project with Community Service/Internship Component This is required in the state of Rhode Island Hingham has a mandatory community service for all seniors

12 Where are we in the process? In the 2008-2009 school year –Found a way to embed 21 st century skills in the Core Academies using the Skill Progression Chart –Created the 10 th Grade Academy –Created the structure of the Career Academies This year (You are here) –We need to make sure the Core Academies are piloting the Skill Progression Chart –We need to finalize a proposal on the Community Service / Internship components –We need to educate the faculty about the Design 21 Mission Statement before the ratification vote in December –We need to educate the faculty about the Design 21 Proposal before the ratification vote in January –We need to educate our sophomores about the Career Academies

13 Where are we in the process? By next year we’ll need: –School wide implementation of the Skill Progression Chart and Digital Portfolio System –Plan for Career Education in the Core Academies –Finalized curriculum for the 11 th grade Career Academy courses –Finalized policies and systems that will sustain Design 21 By the 2011-2012 school year –Finalize the curriculum for the 12 th grade Career Academy courses

14 Career Academies Timetable Fall 09 Essential QuestionsTangible Outcomes Brainstorming and Research October and November Meeting 1: October 6 All Design Teams Meet Application 1.What would the internship opportunities look like? 2.What would the community service opportunities look like? 3.What would the curriculum look like for this? 4.What would the policies look like for this? 5.Who could organize this? 1.Brainstorm list of ideas for the capstone and internship /community service components 2.Design Teams are exposed to the ideas from other teams. Meeting 2: 10/7-10/23 Research (For the following 3 meetings, chairs should divide the workload between research on the above and development of new courses proposed in the D21 Proposal) 1.Executive summaries of the best ideas and biggest problems unearthed by your research. Meeting 3: 10/27-11/13 Research Bringing Cohesion November through January Meeting 4: 11/17-11/24 Research / Proposal Creation1.Develop the curriculum, policies, and organizational mechanics for the capstone and community service/internship requirements. 2.Develop plans for events or opportunities that bring cohesion to the curriculum. Meeting 5: 12/1-12/11 Proposal Creation Meeting 6: Full D21 Meeting on 1/4 Proposal Creation Add Capstone and Community Service/Internship proposals to Design 21: Your Tomorrow is Here Today and submit to full faculty for ratification in January. This will allow for the full faculty to ratify the document before it becomes part of the first reading of the Program of Studies to School Committee.
