2 Why Are There Child Labor Laws Child labor laws ensure that our youth have the necessary time to pursue their education and be employed in a safe workplace. If the teens want to make money to save up for something.

3 Child Law Certificate Children can get a work certificate from a school issuing officer or the county superintendent officers. All teens under the age of 18 have to have a work certificate. A work permit must be filled out via paper or online.

4 Hours of Work/Age Requirements The federal law states that the age requirement is 14 years. The state law states that the the age of the child must be 12 years. hours they can work are 3 hours on a school day including friday. 18 hours a week during a school week.8 hours per day on a day with no school. No more than 40 hours when there is no school in session.

5 School Attendance The minor must be enrolled in school in school at all times also the minors school standing is good for the academic year.Must have a school attendance record until the minor reaches the age of 18.

6 Hazardous Occupations/ Prohibited Occupations Prohibited for minors 14 to 15 years of age ●Working in a freezer ●Cooking ●Mining operation Prohibited for minors under 17 years of age ●Driving limited to daylight hours ●Seatbelt must be used when driving a job vehicle. ●Must have a state drivers license for a driving job Prohibited for minors under 18 years of age ●Roofing work ●Excavation jobs ●Mining

7 Entertainment Employment Must complete an application to be enrolled for entertainment employment. Must make sure that the parent or legal guardian has signed off in the correct places in the application. Submit the application by fax or mail. Minors 15 or younger may not work or be present at a production or performance site for more than 10 hours. If so a 10 hour maximum must include a 1 hour break for meals, 1 hour rest, and additional breaks if necessary.
