4 Change in Process

5 Beginning with the current year, WebApps – UERS will no longer be used for review and approval of the Dropout Report. LEAs should de-activate this report in WebApps. Reports will be available in the Reporting Hub to assist with dropout reporting.

7 1. Log in to WebApps 2. Click on UERS tab 3. Click on Manage Reports 4. Select Dropout Detail Approved Report from drop-down 5. Uncheck all schools De-activate Report in WebApps - Steps

9 About the Dropout Report Dropout data is used for Federal reporting State Consolidated Data Report High School Accountability Model

10 What is a Dropout? Individual who: Was enrolled in your school at some time during the reporting year (2010/11), did NOT complete the year and was NOT enrolled on the 20th day of the current year (2011/12) Completed 2010/11 at your school, but failed to return within the first 20 days of the new year

11 What is a Dropout?... Has not graduated from high school or completed a state or district approved educational program Has not transferred to another public school district, private school, home school, or state/district approved educational program Is not temporarily absent due to suspension or school-approved illness

12 Dropout Examples Student finished 2010/11 school year in your school and did not return during the first 20 days of 2011/12= dropout 2010/11. Student did not finish last year at your school and is not in membership on day 20 of the current year = dropout for 2010/11. Student finished last year in your school and came one day this year = dropout 2011/2012.

13 Additional Information The following are NOT counted as dropouts: Students who: are on long-term suspension leave the United States withdraw prior to the Compulsory Attendance Age (7 years old) are expelled but enroll in another LEA or state by day 20

14 Additional Information… are withdrawn because developmental needs have surpassed the LEA/School’s capacity receive permission to start school late due to child birth The death of a student after dropping out and before day 20 of the current year Students who enrolled in an LEA for the FIRST time for 20 days or less

15 Additional Information… The following are counted as dropouts on the Federal dropout report only: Students who have been permanently expelled

16 Investigating Potential Dropouts

17 Investigation of Potential Dropouts Schools will have to perform analysis of students who withdrew the previous year with a W2 code to determine the actual status of all students. Schools will also need to investigate any students they were expecting in the current year who failed to show up.

18 Admission/Withdrawal Report The Admission/Withdrawal Report should be used to determine which students were withdrawn in the previous year with a W2 code.

21 Admission/Withdrawal Parameter Form - Steps 1. In the Date Range fields, type the 1 st school day of the prior year and the day before the first day of the current year. 2. From the Sort by drop-down list, click Admission Withdraw Code. 3. Click Print.

23 Investigations Withdrawn students can be queried on the Admit Student screen to see if they have been enrolled in another NC WISE school since leaving your school. Additional investigation may be necessary If the student is said to have enrolled in another school, follow up should be made of the receiving school to determine if/when the student actually enrolled.

29 Reporting Hub Reports… Student Level Dropout Summary At-Risk Provides overall summary of school dropout at- risk

30 Reporting Hub Reports… NC Schools (Year) Dropout Events, Grades 1-13 LEA level report of all schools in the LEA

31 Reporting Hub Reports… Calculation Report Provides the LEAs with their dropout rate

32 Reporting Hub Reports… Error Report Provides possible errors

33 Reporting Hub Reports… Approval Report The final report Data Management team will copy student details and the calculation to a different table for storing Data pulled October 1 LEAs review data using Reporting Hub report

35 Program Assignments – Verified Dropouts For Verified Dropouts, assign the appropriate code on the Program Assignments screen in eSIS.

38 Entering Verified Dropout Data - Steps 1. Type 2010 in the Year field. 2. From the Program drop-down list, click Verified Dropout.

39 Entering Verified Dropout Data – Steps … 3. In the Start Date field, type: The first day of the prior school year if the student was in membership on day 1. The student’s registration date if the student registered after the first day of the prior school year. 4. In the End Date field, type the student’s withdrawal date.
