Another group of families left England in 1620 because of their religion. They sailed to America from Plymouth. After a long voyage in a ship called “May Flower”. They crossed the Atlantic Ocean and landed at Plymouth rock (now the state of Massachusetts). They named that land “New England”.These emigrants became founders of the USA. There were 102 men, women and children on the ship. They were members of a religious sect, who did not like to go to King’s church (The Church of England) and wanted to start anew life in a new world. 7 Thanksgiving Feast The first winter was very hard for the Pilgrim Fathers as they were called. They arrived too late to grow many crops. Without fresh food half of the colonists died.
