4. The CFR Once a bill becomes a law and is codified the responsible agency writes rules or regulations for how the law is to be applied. A regulation differs from a law in that the regulation applies what a law allows or disallows with exacting specificity. The Code of Federal Regulations is a 50 Title set of about 150 printed volumes. The printed CFR and indexes are located at Reference KF 70.A3. One quarter of the CFR is updated quarterly on a rolling quarterly basis. Updates to regulations after they are published in the CFR can be found in the Federal Register (Reference KF 70.A1) using the monthly publication List of Sections Affected (KF 70.A34 C6).
