Who will change to the New OCLC Cataloging Service, and when?

You Choose your Day One You can try out the service anytime after June 30, 2002. Your current cataloging authorization will work with the new cataloging service You choose how to migrate – All at once or individually

Migration Considerations – SaveFile The Online SaveFile is different depending on the interface used – Records started using Passport or CatME must be completed using Passport or CatME – Records started using the new cataloging service must be completed using the new service

Migration Considerations – Export The new cataloging service will support: – TCP/IP Export – Export to a file The TCP/IP export is direct to the library system, and may require access through your firewall The export record format is the same as with Passport!!!

TCP/IP Export – Passport TCP/IP Export To ILS Passport OCLC Record OCLC Record Library System Library System XPO

TCP/IP Export – New OCLC Cataloging Service Browser OCLC Record OCLC Record Library System Library System Export TCP/IP Fire Wall Fire Wall Call your Network Admin. Call your Network Admin.

Migration Scenarios Passport New Cataloging Service All at Once PassportCatME New Cataloging Service Interim Step CJK and Arabic SW PassportNew Cataloging Service CatME Original Copy

Life After Passport End-of-support date for Passport for Cataloging 12/31/2002 – Will still work, but there will be no testing on new operating systems, no bug fixes, support will ask users to try CatME or the new OCLC cataloging service End-of-life date for Passport for Cataloging 12/31/2003 – Will no longer work with OCLC Cataloging These dates do not apply for ILL, UL, or NAD

The Windows Client Optional Windows Interface For those features that are not currently supported by a browser Same navigation as the browser platform – Easy to switch between platforms Initial release will include online activity plus macros Future releases will include offline local file and batch features Release expected first half of 2003

CatME… an Alternative An alternative to Passport… an interim step towards migrating to the new OCLC cataloging service If you’d like to move from Passport, but the new OCLC cataloging service isn’t right for you yet, consider CatME CatME will be discontinued in the future only after all functionality is added to the new OCLC cataloging service; date has not been set

Functionality Supports all Cataloging functionality – NACO support for creating/replacing authority records added October 2001 – New “terminal” module to allow you to telnet to your local system to run macros between your local system and CatME added in February 2002 Work online, interactively, as in Passport, or work offline with records in a local file Batch searching and processing is an option

CatME Software CatME 2.10 currently available for download from the OCLC Web site CatME 2.10 will be available on the OCLC Access Suite compact disc 2nd quarter 2002 http://www.oclc.org/catme
