1 What are the 12 bar blues? The 12 bar blues is a chord progression; it is the most common form of blues. It is called this because of the length of music is 12 bars, it also fits with the typical blues lyrics. Ayda Adem 8H1

3  When African slaves were transported into America they brought their musical traditions with them. Early African- American music include spirituals (religious songs using vocal harmony) and work songs.  Work songs were sung whilst doing their set tasks. African music combined with the folk music of the European settlers to produce new styles of music  The blues emerged towards the end of the 19 th century. Country blues is a solo singer accompanied by guitar or piano.
